MIA

Wow, what a hectic month......hence the massive delay in posting! Now I have the problem of where to begin..

SO, April was mostly consumed with DIY. The main objective? My office! At last, 4 mood boards, 4 weeks and about 40 paint testers later its finally FINISHED! Well almost, still waiting for the doors for the built-in cupboards to be fitted but apart from that its FINISHED!!! Really chuffed with the results! I'll be blogging about that in a later post....

In between painting, filling, sanding, varnishing, painting, painting and more bloody PAINTING I have been working on quite a few freelance design jobs for a couple of main clients. I'm hoping this should keep the business ticking over nicely, its certainly been a great start!

On top of all that we made two trips to Glasgow this month, the first to see BRMC with Christopher and Claire (amazing gig, one of the best I've been to). The second to see LCD Soundsystem. It was just the two of us and the lovely John kindly provided us with bed, breakfast & transport. Also a great gig....well, what I can remember of it anyway! (John, if you are reading this sorry again about the chair and the cheek...you ken a luv ya! haha)

Glasgow Barrowlands
Definitely one of my favourite venues, a little bit grimy but retro as hell, ALWAYS have the best nights there!

Just ACE!

Some more housey stuff I love...

More posts soon!

The look of love...

I've been searching for a satchel for ages....with no avail....until I spied THIS  in a google image search last night! I fell in love!!

But the love affair was short lived as I discovered it was the THE Mulberry 'Alexa' bag! At £700 a pop I can only dream of buying this....with my lottery winnings....gutted! My melancholy didn't last too long though....... I then stumbled across something very similar from Topshop on Polyvore!

It's the best site ever, not only for fashion inspiration but also for design.....some of the sets created by people are nothing short of artworks!

I created a set featuring this Topshop bag along with some tops and accessories I do have.....and others I'd like to have ;-) unfortunately, I do really need to buy this bag because it looks sooo cool!

Here is another set I created just for fun, more art than wearable fashion...

And here is a set inspired by my bedroom...

Although my bedroom is completed, I think it could be vastly improved with the addition of a couple of Fornasetti plates, hehe...

Or even a sneaky wall of this....

Or as a last choice, these...

I thought I was set on our office design, so I thought, until I clapped eyes on this....

We have a similar cupboard in our 3rd bedroom so I'm rethinking the entire scheme and location. Now that I'm going to be running a full-time business from home it needs to be a proper functioning office space...not just a bedroom/office.

Purty wallpapers from Anna French and Cath Kidston...

I love these colours but would only use splashes in a white scheme, like the vintage typewriter I found on ebay. Eagerly awaiting delivery of this and I'm praying it works (as promised) as I hope to use it to overprint my card and tag designs. And if it doesn't? Oh well, it still looks kinda cool!

I was invited over to my Brother's for afternoon tea on Easter Sunday, it was luuuuuvly!!!!! On top of sarnies, cream scones and biscuits, Claire made an ACE carrot cake from the Hummingbird Bakery ......best recipe book ever!

YUM!

Happy Easter!

So that’s March done and dusted and what does April have to offer?? More snow!!! We better get a good summer for this, we bloody deserve it!! I’m scared to plant anything in the garden.....the Primroses I potted a few weeks ago were murdered by the frost!!! Roll on BBQ’s and beer gardens, that’s what I say!

I decided to do some baking this week....very housewifie! I was expecting a few people round so I thought I’d offer them a fine biscuit for a change....

I made Pear & Pistachio cookies (with the addition of apple and plum, couldn’t find single bags of dried pears so I improvised)...

.....and Peanut Butter cookies, was chuffed......they actually tasted nice....even though I made them!?!

These are gift tags I quickly designed and printed for our nieces and nephews’ Easter pressies. I cut out the labels with a scissors....now that’s a steady hand! (No signs of Gin damage there)

I have been glued to this machine morning, noon and night for the 4 past days, so much so I have RSI! I will be putting up more of my graphic design portfolio up this week. I’m available for freelance work so please contact me at farquhar_laura@hotmail.com

I also hope to get some wedding stationery samples on here soon, if there are any brides out there needing info meantime, please get in touch!

Really excited, have just ordered heaps of cool buttons/fabrics/charms and other embellishments from Japan to use in my new greetings card ranges. Can’t wait to get stuck into new designs! Coming soon to Coco Violet!

Also look out for my Etsy shop! When this is up and running I hope to sell Digital Downloads for Scrapbookers, Business Card / Stationery / Label / Packaging Templates for Crafters and DIY Invitation / Card / Favour kits. As well as my own range of printed and hand embellished Cards, Invites, Writing Sets.....and much more!

I got a Wacom Bamboo Tablet for my birthday and have been having a play. I hope to use it to create my very own handwriting fonts....once I to get to grips with it, that’s the plan anyway!?!

Well with so much to do I’d better stop talking about it....and just do it! Got a few freelance jobs in today, on top of a wedding invite design so I’m going to be a busy bee over the Easter weekend. Keeps me away from the fridge....happy days!

I’ll leave you with a couple more pics I took this week. Please leave a comment, I love reading them! x
